Als kleine jongen kreeg Jantje Smit de kans om een duet op te nemen met zangeres Carola Smit en het lied dat daaruit voort kwam, had zo’n succes, dat BZN besloot om nog meer songs voor de jongen te schrijven. Het brak landelijk door, maar vanaf 2005 wou hij meer dan alleen maar het kindsterretje zijn en kwam hij het podium op als Jan Smit. Het bleek een regelrechte hit, want binnen afzienbare tijd maakte hij deel uit van de Toppers en verkocht hij talloze albums. Recent nog vierde hij 25 jaar op de planken en mocht hij ook zijn vrouw in de bloemetjes zetten voor hun tienjarig huwelijk. Ondertussen is er een jaartje bijgeteld en telt het gezin vijf leden.
