Je kan je soms de vraag stellen wat er meest indrukwekkend is, de prestaties die een voetballer ooit op het veld heeft neergezet, of de gebeurtenissen naast het veld. Ruud Gullit is nog steeds een monument in het Nederlandse voetbal, met twee titels als wereldvoetballer van het jaar en één keer Europees voetballer van het jaar, kan dat wel tellen. Maar ook op relationeel vlak beginnen de cijfers aan te dikken. Na maar liefst drie mislukte huwelijken, waaruit zes kinderen voort kwamen, is hij nu ondertussen met zijn meest recente vlam Karin de Rooij samen. Het koppel is reeds zeven jaar samen en is met de zoon van de Rooij regelmatig op het golfparcours te bewonderen.
