Terminado ese período se dedicó a estudiar medicina pero finalmente empezó a trabajar en el mundo del entretenimiento. Es un actor, comediante y cantante. Tiene una vasta filmografía. Está en el libro Guiness por presentar el programa infantil de televisión: En familia con Chabelo durante 48 años sin interrupción. En todo ese período hizo reír a varias generaciones de niños.
