1987年のドラマ『ダウンタウン物語』で共演した際、小川菜摘はダウンタウンの浜田雅功よりも世間での知名度が高かった。1989年に入籍した姉さん女房の小川は、何度浮気をされても、3年間の不倫があっても、遊び人の夫を見捨てず支え続けた。どんな時も「芸の肥やしになるならいい」と語り、自分と子供たちを守ってくれた妻に、浜田は感謝してもしきれないと話している。
