You Can Now Tie The Knot at the Kensington Palace! But Here’s the Catch

March 28, 2022

Browsing the internet for the perfect wedding destination can be frustrating and exciting at the same time---it is a very special occasion, after all, and will (hopefully) only happen once in your life.

Attended by all the special people in your and your partner’s lives, the venue can be a key factor in making the event all the more memorable.

So, if you’re currently googling scenic places where you can say your “I do’s,” you’ll probably see famous beaches and tourist spots that are all too common for those who want to achieve an extraordinary moment when they tie the knot with the person they love.

Just to be clear, getting married with simplicity in mind is never wrong. You can hold the event in your backyard, a nearby beach, and in the church.

There are loads of themes you can think of to incorporate in the event, which can make the occasion more personal. But if you’re willing to shell out for this very special moment, then you might want to consider somewhere grand.

If you love fairytales, there’s nothing more apt than exchanging vows in a palace. Plus, if you’ve been dying to feel like a royal on that day because of the hype brought about by the May 2018 wedding of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, then worry no more.

Kensington Palace Wedding

Apparently, you can tie the knot at the Kensington Palace, where the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge reside. The good news is, you don’t have to be a member of the royal family or to get married with one to hold the event in this scenic place. It is situated at the Kensington Gardens where greenery sprawls and its rich history makes it all the more special.

The Kensington Palace, as mentioned, houses Kate Middleton and Prince William and has been the residence of the royals since the 17th century.

Keep in mind that not all the apartments would be open for your event, as understandable, but there are a lot of magnificent venues soon-to-be-married couples can choose from.

As for tying the knot, it could happen in the Orangery, adjacent to the Kensington Gardens, which is now open to the public.

The Orangery is actually licensed to hold civil weddings – in fact, in 2016, there were about 50 exchanges of vows that were held there. Although you technically have no other choice on where to give your “I do’s” in the Palace, it’s definitely not bad at all.

The venue, which was ordered to be built by Queen Anne in 1704, is spacious enough to fit 120 guests who can dance freely. As for the ultimate fairytale feels, the Orangery Gardens allow pyrotechnics.

Reception Venues at the Kensington Palace

If you want to go full “royal,” there are a lot of places in Kensington Palace where you can hold your reception. If in case you opt for a summer wedding, there are three gardens to choose from: the Sunken Garden, which can fit 80 guests, ideal for small and private ceremonies; East Front Gardens, which can hold up to 400 guests; and the Orangery lawn, which is best for grand weddings as it can host 1,000 attendees.

Prestigious Venues - The King’s Gallery would be the perfect venue for the reception since the place already has masterpieces that can serve as decorations

If instead, you prefer the winter months, there are four indoor venues where you can hold your reception: the King’s Gallery, which can entertain the couple’s friends and family because of the wonderful and stunning masterpieces in the collection; Entrance Hall, for 300 people; King’s Drawing Room, which can hold about 100 people; and the Cupola Room fit for just a hundred guests but boasts a scenic view of the Kensington Gardens and the Orangery Gardens.

Caterers and Florists

As for the food and flowers, you can go full-blast royal and opt for the pre-approved vendors of the Kensington Palace. Don’t worry as there are about 13 listed florists and caterers, which will basically give you the full royal treatment.

You will be able to feel like a member of the royal family but don’t expect that any of them will drop by your special event. They could be watching from their windows, though, so just always look out for them peeping. As for the cost, reports would say at least around $23,000 for daytime ceremonies, although take this with a grain of salt.
