The Big Move

The Fishneyns recently sparked public interest after they shared the story of how they downsized from a traditional house to a 300-square-foot abode. The couple originally decided to make the move due to their desire to travel and start a business from the money they got from selling their house.

The family said adios to their old home and embarked on a six-month journey of building a small house on wheels in the mountains of Santa Cruz. It was a life-changing project that brought them a step close to achieving their dream of starting a business.

The family of three, including parents Bela and Spencer and their daughter, Escher, live comfortably in their new home which consists of 8 different spaces to keep things from getting boring.

Making Space

You might be wondering what could fit in a tiny 300-square-foot home, but surprisingly, this family has managed to squeeze two bedrooms, kitchen, office, bathroom, a walk-in closet, and even a play area for their daughter, all inside the tiny space!

Bela said that they didn’t opt for a simple studio because having several unique spaces makes the area feel like home. What’s more, the couple has plenty of outdoor space to fit in two large patios and a hiking area with tents and space for other fun activities.

When it comes to décor, the couple opted for a monochrome tone to match the surroundings of the house and give it a more natural feel. Some of the styles incorporated in the furnishing include floral patterns, earth-toned fabrics and copper.

The master bedroom offers a breathtaking view of California’s raw natural beauty. The tiny bedroom is almost completely taken up by the bed but the couple isn’t complaining about the lack of space, instead, they grateful for the experience of sleeping in a home they built themselves, not to forget the money they are saving on rent.
