Luz Elena Ruiz Bejarano es su verdadero nombre. Un productor argentino le puso el apodo de Lucha Villa porque es un nombre y un apellido bien mexicano e iba a ser fácil de recordarlo. Era tan hermosa de joven, con un cutis lozano y un físico contorneado, que la llamaron para hacer una carrera como modelo. Luego comenzó a cantar ranchera y a actuar en el cine. Incluso cantaba en muchas de sus películas con una voz de contralto. El público le puso el nombre de La Ronca de Chihuahua y La Grandota de Camargo. Estuvo casada cinco veces.
