Alhoewel de carrière van Ruud van Nistelrooy niet altijd van een leien dakje liep, is de man er toch in geslaag om een prachtig palmares op te bouwen en aanzien te genieten bij voetbalfans over de hele wereld. Hij mocht in een verleden voor een aanzienlijke som van Heerenveen naar PSV vertrekken en deed dat sterk staaltje nog eens over toen hij naar Engeland trok bij Manchester United. Hij was al van jongsaf aan samen met zijn vriendin Leontien Slaats en stapte samen met haar in 2004 naar het altaar in het dorpje Geffen. Het werd een groot feest en een gelukkig leven dat verrijkt werd met de komst van hun zoon en dochter.
